This is the third post in the backyard composting series.
For some, collecting enough organic waste to build a larger compost pile is a challenge. This list of resource ideas should help you gather enough material for your pile.
- Local arborist woodchips
- Leaves (your own, neighbors, city leaf pickup program)
- Coffee grounds from coffee shops (your supermarket bakery might have free frosting buckets you can use for collecting the grounds)
- Neighbor kitchen waste (you'd be suprised who may want to donate to your pile)
- Shredded Paper (local recycling center or paper shredding company)
- Spring Cleanup Waste (spent garden plants from your yard and neighbors)
- Lawn clippings (your own, your neighbors or a landscaping company)
- Spent straw or hay (reach out to community for those with farm animals)
- Manure (reach out to community for those with farm animals, or better yet, get some chickens!)
finding enough material to build your piles can be easy!
What other resources have you discovered that could be added to this list?
